PREMIERE: CAMPION delivers celestial debut single for the unrequited
CAMPION is the heartfelt, exploratory pop music of Everett, Washington's Alex Campion, a UK transplant from London. His debut single delivers silky smooth vocals over layers of effervescent synths and beats leaving you in an uplifted and even bemused state -- because the combination surely is new to your ears.
Beat-makers of this caliber can tend to lean on features from established vocalists to help them ice the cake they baked from scratch. It's likely this that separates CAMPION from many of his peers. On his debut single "The Withering Oak", there are many clear takeaways and his angelic voice that could likely melt the marshmallow off the end of your stick is the obvious one.
The song itself feels as though it emanates from a lush, scenic waterway oasis hidden in the middle of an urban metropolis. It holds a serene and cinematic element but definitely does not lack street smarts. The song also doesn't rely on the typical pop hooks. Rather, the catch is largely in his delicate use of space and octave jumping vocals that seem to hang in the air endlessly.
While its unknown whether this single is part of a future release, CAMPION has made it known that you'll likely see an EP before the end of the year.
CAMPION will join Seattle pop artist Maiah Manser for the final SETS IN THE WEST event at Wetmore Theater Plaza, located at 2710 Wetmore Ave at 7pm.
