In our first edition of Talko Tuesday we are sitting with a newer Everett band, Fuzz Mutt, self described as “Loud and fuzzy rock music.” When I first listened to them, it was their fuzzy guitars and loud vocals that stuck out. As I continue listening, I realize it collides to create a thunderous sound. Fuzz Mutt consists of 3 members: Max, 18, Jared, 18, and Sean, who is turning 18 this week. I decided to take them to TacoBook on Broadway in North Everett. None of them nor myself had been there so we gave it a shot. 9 tacos and 1 burrito later, it did not disappoint.
While we were waiting for the food they explained how they went to Lakewood High School together and started playing Jazz. Soon after, they started to jam together, thus creating the band Fuzz Mutt. Right now they have 2 EPs and a couple demos out. Max explains after their last summer show, Rock The Boat, they will be working on some more music, possibly a full-length album.
Once we received our food, they told stories of past shows they’ve played. Jared brought up an experience at Lucky Liquor in Tukwila in which their dealing with a drunk guy was a strange one. They were heckled by him after the show and he made claims of doing immoral things... in the Philippines... but that’s a story you’ll have to find out yourself. Sean said one of his favorite shows they played was at Obscurus in Everett. “There was a weird industrial techno band … they wore cybergoth pants and goggles and were using tools to make music. It was strange. That’s why I loved it because you could tell how uncomfortable everyone was.”
Max added, “Sean likes the whack shows.”
Sean agreed, “Yeah. It was like the Twilight Zone.”
As we finished up our food, Sean took a finger full of hot sauce and ate it with one of his radishes from his taco. Besides his eyes watering slightly, he seemed rather unfazed. The conversation took several dramatic turns, including a discussion with plans for a zombie apocalypse. They all surprisingly agreed they would create a “commune off the grid, no clothes, free love”. Max asks Sean if he would kill his mom if she became a zombie. Sean doesn’t hesitate with a quick response that he would and later elaborates that he would tie up a large rock and let it fall on her head so technically “he” didn’t kill her, it would be the rock. Sean assured us he loves his mom and wouldn't actually harm her.
Yes, our first Talko Tuesday got a little dark and spicy. But these kids are a hoot and are pumped for Rock The Boat and are ready to ROCK! Check out Fuzz Mutt on their Bandcamp page here and give them a listen.
